African Holiday Activities for Kids: Kindness & Family Traditions details

What do you want your children to remember about family celebrations?

Perhaps it’s the story told around the table, the decorations they helped make, or the small act of kindness that made someone smile. Meaningful holiday memories don’t have to begin with more shopping. They can begin with something you do together.

Our African Holiday Magic Learning Kit brings stories, creativity, gratitude and kindness into family celebrations. Designed for families with children aged 3–12, this printable collection offers activities to explore at home or in a learning space.

Africa is home to many cultures and traditions. Use these African-inspired resources as a starting point for conversations, alongside your own family stories and the traditions of the communities you’re learning about.

Make room for stories and creativity

Begin with a holiday activity card and enjoy its accompanying story together. Ask your child what they noticed, what surprised them, or which idea they would like to try.

Then choose a decoration or colouring page. Making something together gives children a role in the celebration, whether they are choosing colours, helping decorate a space or sharing their finished work.

Turn gratitude into a family moment

The Family Gratitude Ritual Guide includes prompts such as Circle of Blessings and Family Reflections.

Try inviting everyone to share something they appreciated that day. Children can speak, draw or ask an adult to help write their thoughts. Keep it simple and leave room for different answers.

Small moments of appreciation can become traditions your family returns to year after year.

Bring kindness into the celebration

The kit includes 30 kindness challenge cards across five sets. Choose a card together and talk about how your family might put its idea into practice.

Rather than turning kindness into a competition, use the cards to notice opportunities to care for others. Ask, “How did that help?” or “How do you think the other person felt?”

Explore, cook and learn together

The Cultural Learning Cards offer another way to begin conversations about celebrations and family traditions. The nine bonus recipe cards invite families to extend the experience into the kitchen, with adults guiding food preparation.

You don’t need to complete everything at once. Choose one activity that fits your family’s time, interests and celebration.

What’s included in the kit?

The bundle contains 222 PDF and PNG files: 111 PDFs and 111 PNGs. This total includes matching formats and alternative versions, rather than 222 unique activities.

Inside you’ll find holiday activity cards with story and text versions, printable decorations, a family gratitude guide, kindness challenges, colouring pages with educational text versions, cultural learning cards and bonus recipe cards.
